Sad news today as celebrity globe trotting Chef Anthony Bourdain has taken his own life.

The chef had traveled to Strasbourg, France to film an episode of his tv series “Parts Unknown” with fellow French Chef Eric Ripert where Bourdain had hung himself.

I was in Strasbourg only last summer and the town has a real French-German village vibe so it’s difficult to imagine such a tragic happening in a lovely place as it is.  Bourdain was a well known celebrity chef with many accolades from both the culinary and entertainment worlds.

Bourdain was at once humorous and at the next moment callous in a thoughtful, edgy way.  Whatever demons he may have had it worked like magic on the screen. He was a phenomenally creative chef, author, philosopher and actor.  He will be missed by his family and many fans. Born on June 25, 1956 in New York City and schooled that same city. His parents Gladys and Pierre were writers and record executives who let him grow up to be his own person eventually channeling the culinary arts.

One of his more famous quotes from “No Reservations” television series:

“Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn. To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living.”

A devoted father and husband, Mr. Bourdain died on June 8, 2018.
