2002 Emmys
Actress Doris Roberts, star of stage, TV and film passed away today at the age of 90.

Her son, Michael Cannata, confirmed the news in a statement issued Monday that said his mother “died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes.

Mrs. Roberts won four Emmys for her portrayal of Marie Barone on the top-rated, long-running CBS comedy series (1996-2005). The role earned her four Emmy awards, a Screen Actors Guild award and three Emmy nominations.

She won an Emmy earlier in her career for supporting actress for her role on NBC’s medical drama St. Elsewhere.

After Roberts died Sunday at 90 years old, Romano remembered not only the late actress’s spirit, but how she helped him over the years.

“Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me. She never stopped,” Romano said in a statement. “Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly.”
